As states continue to reopen and COVID-19 cases begin to spike in some areas, it’s more important than ever to continue following proper social distancing requirements and sanitation procedures.
Over the last few months, I’ve been able to compile a list of my favorite COVID-19 must-have products from Black entrepreneurs and businesses across the country. I love that I can protect myself and others while also supporting small businesses.
From hand sanitizer, face masks, cleaning products, and self-care items, you’ll find the essentials here!
Hand Sanitizer
Hairizon Beauty believes all ingredients found in beauty products can be produced through nature. By selecting products that avoid any unnecessary chemical additives, their products can be applied to all types of hair and skin. Their hand sanitizer is completely customizable, allowing you to choose your own combination of essential oils in a variety of sizes.
Touch Body Works is a beauty brand using only all-natural, sustainable ingredients that are plant-based and/or cruelty-free. Handcrafted in Detroit, Michigan, their hand sanitizers are formulated with botanical extracts and full of aloe vera to clean and soothe your skin.
Hand sanitizer is always a good thing to have on hand, but even more important to have on hand during a pandemic. I am constantly using hand sanitizer to quickly clean my hands after touching anything that isn’t mine. Plus, so many hand sanitizers are travel size so I like to take it on the go when I take Blue on long walks.
Face Masks
These face masks from the Etsy shop FrankandMyrhh come in multiple sizes, colors, prints, and are even machine washable. According to their reviews, these masks stay in great shape over time and make it easier to breathe than traditional masks.
Protect yourself from airborne germs with Boxing Kitten’s face mask. Handmade in Los Angeles, these $20 face masks are made of two, 100% cotton layers with an added pocket for an additional filter. For every two masks purchased, Boxing Kitten will donate one mask in support of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Face masks may be uncomfortable for some, but they are another must have. Face masks can protect you and others from spreading germs. Make sure to regularly wash yours to avoid breakouts.
Household Cleaning Supplies
PUR Home is a natural, non-toxic eco-friendly laundry detergent and household cleaners product line. By selecting organic and raw ingredients that are plant-based, biodegradable, and low toxic, PUR Home provides a safe and effective way to clean your home.
The True Products brand is a veteran-owned manufacturing and distribution company that specializes in household cleaning supplies. The True Detergent is one of the most effective laundry detergents for sensitive skin.
Keeping your space clean and tidy can always reduce germs. I try to spray down my countertops and highly touched surfaces at least once a day! With these all-natural products, I feel comfortable using them around Blue and my loved ones.
Self Care Products
Pandemics are stressful. Why not treat yourself to an at home skin treatment? KNC Beauty is another all-natural beauty brand known for its hydrating eye and lip masks. Sold directly through their website or at Sephora, KNC will keep you feeling “naturally cute and effortlessly fresh”.
SheaMoisuture provides safe and uncompromising beauty products to its customers. My go-to favorite product is any hair masque. They can repair, hydrate, and get your hair feeling extra shiny! The best part? This company promises to be inclusively exclusive. They believe that the best in personal care and beauty should not belong to the few.
Yubi Beauty is a favorite of mine! The company is based in my hometown of Columbus, Ohio, and I’ve been lucky enough to meet the owner (Adiya Dixon Wiggins) a couple years ago. Yubi Beauty produces and sells a makeup brush made to reduce streaks providing a flawless finish.
While it’s important to remember to take care of loved ones during a pandemic, it’s also important to take care of yourself! Take some time to treat yourself to a much deserved face mask, body scrub, or at home spa treatment.
Love this type of advocacy! Just FYI, Shea moisture is no longer black owned
Thank you for the heads up! I’ve loved finding and supporting Black-owned businesses. I’ll look into it and see if I can replace Shea Moisture with another company.
